"Just Do IT"

There must be very few people who do not recognize the Nike Swoosh logo. With a big arsenal of superstars such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Andre Agassi, Shane Warne, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams. This list is pretty long. The company takes its name from the Greek goddess of victory, Nike.

The Nike "Swoosh" is a design created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company, Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).

BRS needed a new brand for a new line of athletic footwear it was preparing to introduce in 1972. Knight approached Davidson for design ideas, and she agreed to provide them, charging a rate of $2 per hour.

In June 1971, Davidson presented a number of design options to Knight and other BRS executives, and they ultimately selected the mark now known globally as the Swoosh. Davidson submitted a bill for $35 for her work. (In 1983, Knight gave Davidson a gold Swoosh ring and an envelope filled with Nike stock to express his gratitude.)

The logo represents the wing of the Greek Goddess. The Nike logo is a classic case of a company gradually simplifying its corporate identity as its frame increases. The company's first logo appeared in 1971, when the word "Nike," the Greek goddess of victory, was printed in orange over the outline of a checkmark, the sign of a positive mark. Used as a motif on sports shoes since the 1970s, this checkmark is now so recognizable that the company name itself has became superfluous.

The solid corporate logo design check was registered as a trademark in 1995. The Nike logo design is an abstract wing, designed by Carolyn Davidson, was an appropriate and meaningful symbol for a company that marketed running shoes. The "JUST DO IT" slogan and logo design campaign communicated such a strong point of view to their target market that the meaning for the logo design symbol evolved into a battle cry and the way of life for an entire generation. Isn't it amazing how a small symbol we call a logo design can make a company into a huge success.

"at the end of the day there's no substitute for the real thing"

There are hundreds of football/soccer jerseys/shirts on the market and it makes harder for the fan to tell the difference. As a collector and seller of jerseys over the years, you can definitely spot out the differences. For those that new and thinking of buying over the internet, here are few steps to bear in mind. Lets begin with the Adidas jerseys,

1) Most dealers/wholesalers selling authentic adidas jerseys will have them presented in their official adidas bag.

2) The jersey if brand new will always have the sticker/barcode which states the size of the jersey, the team,if its away or home jersey.

3) All authentic adidas jerseys will have an inner tag on the jersey which states the date of manufacture on the first line, on the second line will be a 6 digit code, as seen in the 2nd photo this code should always matches the 6 digit code on the top right hand side of the tags.

4) A lot of the fake jerseys only come in one size XL and if they come in over sizes they wont have the original tags stating the size, it will alwayssay xl on it with a different size tag sewed on next to it as seen in the following pic.

5) When you have a good look at the inner tags the quality of the font and spelling will always be of lower quality on a fake jersey. The following picture has a photo of the fake jersey and the real one, at normal observation they both look the same however at closer inspection you can see that there are mispellings on the left photo, after the 100 percent symbol the words polyester are on 2 seperate lines and not next to each other,as in first pic, accents missing on certain languages, and the picture of the 40 degrees celcius is missing the celcius sign and the degrees symbol.

There are many more give aways for example if its a climacool jersey then the tags should say climacool not just simply adidas.

If its a uefa champions league jersey then the shirt must come with the adidas tags plus the champions league tags. For example in the first photo this Bayern UCL jersey comes with the adidas Bayern Munich tags, the Champions League tags and the Bayern Munich club hologram tag. In the 2nd photo it has the white barcode sticker on the reversal stating it is a FCB jersey from the UCL and in L/S.

The majority of fake jerseys on ebay come from far east asia mainly Thailand. So if the seller does not keep their stock they are mainly dropshippers and their shirts are shipped from Asia mainly Thailand then this is a give away they are copies. This is mainly used to keep customs officials of the sellers back by having them directly sent to the winning buyer the seller has wiped his hands clear of importing counterfeits as his/her name is not on the senders details only the companies is, who is based in Asia and chasing them would be harder for customs officials then a national importer. Also you will find that most of these sellers dont combine postage or charge high postage costs also for the same reasons. If the seller were to import these jerseys and resell them in their country then sooner or later on inspection their goods would be seized by customs officials and they would face fines for counterfeit importation plus being chased up by the trademark owners.

Official Jerseys with players names and numbers are hard to obtain and expensive so sellers that are selling a lot of jerseys with every player and name available at low prices are mostly fakes. Also these sellers usually offer to have your own name and number placed on the jerseys too!

Mainly if your seller cant provide these assurances on their product then it is most likely they are selling a fake.

Liverpool new Look.

It has been a summer of change for Liverpool: new manager, attempting to find new owners – and now they’re changing their kit, too.

The club have already unveiled new home and away strips and are launching this smart black third kit for the 2010-11 season.

Roy Hodgson’s side will be hoping the new kits bring them luck after a shocking return in both domestic and European competitions last season.

Moreover, Hodgson will be desperate to see his big stars – Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano – sporting the new kit, rather than that of another club, when the season kicks off on August 14.

Fans will note that the club badge has been updated and manufacturers adidas have incorporated new TechFit and Climacool technologies.

A new laser cut woven crest promises to replace the heavier embroidery technique traditionally used, with a thinner, lighter badge on a sleeker shirt.

The TechFit technology has been designed to help improve speed, increase endurance capabilities and enhance body awareness.

And the Climacool innovations use a mixture of heat and moisture controlling materials, ventilation channels and 3D fabrics which improve air flow to the skin in the key heat zones. Obviously.

ABOUT THE BOOK

David Beckham is indisputably both a brilliant footballer and a global icon. The slightest story about his life generates huge media coverage, but those truly close to him have never given their side of his incredible journey – until now.

Ted Beckham’s story is the ultimate dream of every father who has kicked a football with his son. A lifelong Manchester United supporter, Ted has seen his son David captain both his beloved Reds and England, as well as becoming an inspiration for a generation along the way. Even David Beckham was once just an ordinary kid dreaming of making a living out of football, and in this celebratory book Ted Beckham lovingly charts what happened from David’s birth to his move to Real Madrid.

This book is special not only because of Ted’s role as the father of a hero, but because Ted has given exclusive access to all the family photo albums and the unparalleled and extraordinary collection of memorabilia he has amassed during David’s career. The book features 300 exclusive images to complement the 50,000 words of text. These images give us a side to the David Beckham story that has never been seen before. They include a stunning array of fascinating photographs that will delight and amaze everyone who thinks they know David Beckham.

Ted Beckham said: "I think people will find the book to be a fascinating insight into the early life of David, his ambition and determination to succeed as well as a father's pride and joy watching him grow up and develop into a great footballer."

Richard Milner, Non-fiction Publisher at Pan Macmillan, said: “We are all extremely excited to be publishing such a unique celebration of one of the true sporting giants. Ted Beckham has produced a moving and affectionate tribute to his son which adds the missing dimension to one of England's few global superstars.”

MAN UTD LAUNCH NEW HOME KIT

"It's a good colour and a nice fit. It's not as tight around the neck which gives you a bit more freedom and I really like the fact it has a collar."- Wayne Rooney

From the early 1970s through 1982, Manchester United’s home jerseys had a white turn-down collar. And now it’s back as well as the rest of the shirt featuring a retro look-and-feel.

According to Manchester United, “Red, white and black is in the DNA of Manchester United and Nike has captured the spirit of the club through this season’s home kit. The new shirt leans towards a classic look, inspired by the 1970s, and features a collar for the first time since Nike became the team’s official kit supplier in 2002. And the chevron design that featured last season is evident in the engineered mesh pattern on the back of the shirt, with the V-shape echoed in the shoulder print detail and in the socks. Kit-wise, there are three options for the home games: red jersey, white shorts and black socks; red jersey, black shorts and white socks; or red jersey, white shorts and white socks depending on the opponents.”
